New Weekly Tradition

For the rest of the summer, Steve has pledged to ride his bike to work as much as he can. Good exercise...saves gas money. He takes Jake to school sometimes on his way to work, so we hooked up the bike trailer. Stevie Kate got to join in too because she is going on Thursdays now as well. I can't even tell you how much giggling went on and how excited the kids were to ride with Daddy to school. This was the maiden voyage with more to come.

Happy Anniversary To Us!

Steve & I are celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary today, the traditional year of copper, wool, and brass gifts. When I say that out loud it sounds like such a long time...but it feels like such a short time when I think about it. It has been 7 years of fun, hard work, babies, and most importantly love. It makes me proud.

Steve gets kind of slighted with Fathers Day and our Anniversary so close together, but I still wanted to say Happy Anniversary Babe. You are the best and I love you so very much!

Father's Day

Tribute to My Husband:
Thank you for being a great dad! I love watching you play with the kids and teach them new things. You parent with me so equally, so well, so patiently and without complaint. Jake and Stevie are so lucky to have you. We love you.

Tribute to My Dad:
Thank you for raising me and teaching me. I learned so much about hard work, honesty, faith, determination, and love from you. Watching you be Grandpa to my kids is so fun and rewarding. Thank you and we love you!

Tribute to My Father-In-Law:
Thank you for raising my husband and for being GrandDaddy to my kids. I know my husband values so many of the lessons he learned from you growing up, including hard work, responsibility, and patience. We wish we could see you more...and we love you!

Kung Fu Jake

When I took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda this week, my only thought was that it would be fun family time. I didn't really think about the "kung fu" part of the movie or how that might affect my children.

After the movie, it took about 15 minutes for us to walk to the car. The reason it took so long was because Jake & Chase really believed that they were now kung fu warriors fighting each object they encountered along the way. That includes cardboard cut-out movie ads, drinking fountains, walls, the floor, doors, and of course each other. The kung fu moves include chops, rolls, jumps, yelling, etc. I laughed and laughed.

We got home around 7:30 and got ready for bed. At 9:30 I went upstairs to check on the kids, certain they were asleep. There was Jake in the bathroom doing kung fu moves to the wall. Although he has slowed down on the moves, he is still practicing in his quest to because Kung Fu Jake.

Stevie's Firsts

My daughter has amazed me this week with some new "firsts." Stevie Kate seems to have grown up so much in the past few months. I guess that is how we know we are ready for the next child :-)

* First time at preschool. Stevie is going one day a week to preschool now...for the months of June and July. A little practice for her not being the baby and having mom all to herself. I was so nervous about how she would react because of "not so good" past experiences at Church and Deer Valley. I kept warning the teacher and when I dropped her off last week I was so upset thinking that she would be thinking I was abandoning her, etc. You know all of those crazy mom thoughts...right? To make a long story short...Stevie cried for about two minutes when I left and then no tears for the rest of the day. Her teacher said she loved it.

* First time pooping on the potty. Sorry for those of you who don't want to hear potty stories about my kids. However, this is a big occasion and she did it three times this week. Now I need to gear up to do the rest of the potty training.

* First time down the water slide at the pool. She went first with Dad and then with Mom, and then wanted to try it herself. Steve let her go a few feet in front of him. She wasn't heavy enough to make it all the way down without stopping, so he gave her a push from behind. She loved it!

* First time she went to the movies with me and Jake. I guess I shouldn't say this is the first time...because we did see one other movie over a year ago with her in the theater. But this is the first movie she actually watched and paid attention. You can't beat watching a movie with popcorn & candy, along with good friends. We saw Kung Fu Panda this week with the McClellands and she sat still for almost the entire movie.

* First time she has shown notice of the pregnancy. This week I really noticed her paying attention to my stomach and being careful and loving. She talked to the baby a few times this week in a really sweet voice. I know that watching the movie of the Bergs meeting their new baby Garrett really helped.

Lagoon Day

Thanks to my Dad's government service...we had a free day at Lagoon. Or as Jake says it...Magoon (still working on the "L's.") The weather was a little cold, which was great news for me because I know I can stand cold weather...just not hot weather all day. Grandma & Grandpa offered to watch Stevie Kate while I took Jake & Kassidy to meet up with Cody, Natalie, Sara, and Isaac. It was such a fun day.

Jake's favorite ride was the roller coaster, or so he says. But I saw the biggest smiles from him on the Dinosaur Drop. I bribed Sara & Kassidy to go on the Wicked ride with Cody & Natalie because I wanted to live vicariously through them...the ride looked so fun. I stuck to the train the ferris wheel. That ferris wheel was one of scariest rides I have ever been on. Anyone else think so? Up so high with no bars holding the kids down and keeping them from standing up and moving around. I'm usually not that scared of stuff like that...but next time I may skip that ride :-) It was fun to see smiles all day long from the kids. Thanks Dad!

Saturday Pony Ride

While I was having fun with my weekly "yard saleing" adventure on Saturday morning, I came across a yard sale at a private school and they were offering pony rides. I went back to the house to get Jake and Stevie for the pony ride. My neighbors Jenna and Stella came along with us.

Jake decided it was much more fun to play in the dirt and throw rocks, but Stella and Stevie had a good time on the pony Jasmine. Stevie looked like a little jockey on the horse. Her legs were very gripped and she was hunched forward. They tried to get her up straight, but I think she just liked it that way.

Memorial Day BBQ

For those of you who live around here...you know last weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, was cold and wet. The weather kept us inside for most of the weekend. Monday afternoon/evening my parents planned a BBQ at Grandma Helen's place in Wallsburg. That sounded like a perfect place to be on Memorial Day. Most of the Draper clan was there, along with Uncle Carl's family and my cousin Connie's family. Strange to be there without Grandma Helen, but it was so good to see everyone and catch up.

The rain cleared after we ate, and almost everyone walked up to the pond. The kids had fun riding the 4-wheelers, throwing rocks in the pond, and watching all of the dogs swim for sticks. Zeke had the most endurance, and swam for a good 30 minutes. With all of the crazies around (I'm talking about my brothers-in-law) usually someone gets a little hurt.

I don't think anyone got hurt today, but the new game was to see who could put the dog's shock collar against their own neck and turn it up setting by setting. I'm not sure who won, but why would you want to do that to yourself? The only spill that happened was when Grandpa had Jake, Stevie, and Isaac in a trailer behind the 4-wheeler and the trailer dumped over. Needless to say...Stevie decided not to get back on with crazy Grandpa :-)
